We’ve been working hard at a client’s home, converting their old garage, which they had previously partially converted into a game and exercise room, into a Mother-in-Law suite.
Why Our Customer Wanted To Convert The Garage
The family had used the game room quite a bit with their kids. Now the kids have grown up, and Grandma is moving home. We need to make this room comfortable and accessible for her.
Bathroom and Kitchen
In one corner of this space, we are going to create an L-shaped kitchen, complete with an island. We are also going to cut into the back wall, into the space still being used as a garage, to create a walk-through space with the bedroom and bathroom on the other side. Right now there’s a little half-bath there, but we are going to put in a shower and expand it. We will also put in a space and hookups for a washer and dryer right in the new master bathroom.
What We Are Moving or Removing
We are currently cleaning out the area that’s still being used as a garage. We will move the breaker panel over to make room for the walk-through into the bedroom area. We will have to move some walls back to open up space.
From Weight Room To Bedroom
On the other side of the space, our clients currently have a weight room. We are going to turn this into a guest bedroom with a closet. There’s a tornado shelter in here as well.
Living Room and Outdoor Living
We will cut an opening for a door and two windows for what will be the living room so that space will be accessible and have lots of light. We’ll add a new door for the exterior. We are also adding a carport out front, and a porch with a concrete patio out back!
